While English was my first language, French was a close second. My godmother, who is French, taught me the language as a child, and at the first available opportunity when I finished my undergrad degree, I was off to Paris to study at L’Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. I wound up spending the better part of a decade in France and England, and much to my chagrin, returned to the United States due to a visa situation in 2015, newly in possession of my PhD in theatre and globalization. As a theatre maker and artist, I am interested in site-specificity, sense and memory, and I have a significant interest in the aesthetic possibilities of smell and taste. Spending time cooking and eating is an important part of my family’s culture, and I sometimes have to work hard to maintain that culture when confronted with the fast pace of American theatre and academia. Among many other less tangible things, I miss the baguettes and varieties of cheese in France. I have succeeded in making some pretty excellent baguettes at home, but my home cheesemaking efforts have been, up to this point, highly inadequate. My partner and I also keep bees; a constant source of entertainment, consternation, and honey!
