Personal Statement Scott Osborne - M.F.A. Assistant Professor of Theatre – Providence College Scenic, Interior and Costume Designer Production Designer, Art Director scottosbornedesign@yahoo.com Scott is a multi-faceted artist and instructor with comprehensive expertise in the performing arts, film / television, design and display industries. He has earned academic degrees, acquired professional training and gained extensive experience focused on performance, directing, design and production. Scott possesses a profound enthusiasm for education that reflects an eagerness to share with others the lifelong joy, curiosity, and sense of adventure that an appreciation for theater can inspire. A wide range of influences, approaches, and perspectives are evident in his body of work. Scott’s portfolio chronicles a sustained legacy of mentorship, artistry and discipline working as a designer, director, technician, and producer in the theater as well as a set designer, art director and production designer for film and television. Over the course of his career teaching an array of subjects in a variety of learning environments, Scott has carefully developed a teaching philosophy focused on the goal of identifying key strengths and cultivating the imaginations of emerging artists. Scott embraces a teaching philosophy rooted in pluralism, equity, and abundant inclusion. Utilizing precise and effective techniques that incorporate differing viewpoints, inspire the creative process, promote innovation, and emphasize the acquisition of essential skills, Scott is known for his ability to guide students of diverse cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and levels of experience towards artistic accomplishment and academic success. Scott’s work has appeared on tour worldwide and onstage at the Ohio Theater NYC, York Theatre NYC, The Prague Quadrennial, Theater of the Berkshires, Dallas Children’s Theater, Dallas Theater Center, Theater Three, Cara Mia Theater Company, Shakespeare Dallas, Undermain Theater, Kitchen Dog Theater, Watertower Theatre, Lyric Stage, The Dallas Museum of Art, Our Endeavors Theater, Magnolia Lounge, and The MAC. His film and television credits include set designer for PBS’s Barney & Friends, TNT’s Dallas (2012) and 20th Century Fox’s Second Chance, and art direction for NBC’s Salvation as well as production design for numerous independent features. He has been recognized for his creative contributions with five Dallas Theater Critics Forum Awards for Best Set Design, two Dallas Theatre League Awards for Best Direction and Best Production of a Musical, three Dallas Observer Awards for Best Theatrical Debut and Best Production(s). A member of the theater faculty at Providence College, Scott holds a B.F.A in Performance and Directing from University of North Texas and an M.F.A. in Theatrical Design from Southern Methodist University.
